Saifukuji Temple
This temple was built about 640 years ago by the priest Ryonyo, and serves as the quasi-head temple of the Chinzei school of the Jodo Sect of Buddhism. Its shoin garden, said to represent the Buddhist land of perfect bliss, is particularly famous for its beautiful autumn colors, and has been nationally designated as a Site of Scenic Beauty. In addition to the Amida-do, Miei-do, and other buildings on its ground designated as Important Cultural Properties, the temple's collection also includes a number of works of calligraphy and handicrafts, that are likewise designated as Important Cultural Properties.
