Takahama Town

Magoji Temple

This old temple is said to have been built by Prince Shotoku. Today, it is also famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms and autumn colors. The hon-do main hall houses a statue of the seated Bato Kanzeon Bosatsu, which is an Important Cultural Property. To the right of the hon-do is a gorinto five-layered tower, as well as hundreds of stone Buddhist sculptures lined up in rows. The statue of the seated Bato Kanzeon Bosatsu is only exhibited to the public briefly every twelve years, in each year of the horse, alternating between one-day and three-day public exhibition periods.
